Training & Competency Development

Purpose-built capacity strengthening for digital health success

HTA+ provides targeted, assessment-driven training and competency development for healthcare facilities, programs, and health system leaders across Nigeria and Africa.

Our training is not generic. It is customized to the specific gaps identified during an HTA+ Digital Health Readiness Assessment, ensuring that capacity building directly addresses real operational risks and supports sustainable digital health adoption.

What makes HTA+ training different

Most training programs focus on attendance.
HTA+ focuses on competency, proficiency, and measurable improvement.

Our approach:

  • Is vendor-neutral and context-specific
  • Aligns training to actual workflows and system realities
  • Measures competency, not just participation
  • Supports donor accountability and scale readiness

How it works

1. Assessment-informed design

Training modules are selected and customized based on findings from an HTA+ Digital Health Readiness Assessment. Only the competencies that matter for the facility or program are prioritized.

2. Role-based learning

Content is tailored to different cadres, including clinical staff (doctors, nurses, CHEWs), health information and records officers, facility and program managers, digital health and IT focal persons, and health system leadership and policymakers.

3. Competency validation

Each module includes structured assessments to confirm knowledge acquisition and practical understanding, enabling organizations to demonstrate readiness improvements.

Training focus areas

HTA+ training modules align directly with core digital health readiness domains:

  • Digital health governance and stewardship
Ownership, decision-making, vendor management, and data accountability.
  • Clinical and administrative workflow optimization
Minimum datasets, role-based documentation, and adoption-friendly workflows.
  • Health data quality, integrity, and safety
Structured data capture, validation, audit trails, and privacy principles.
  • Interoperability and reporting readiness
DHIS2 alignment, minimum interoperable datasets, and future integration concepts.
  • Workforce digital readiness and change management
Digital literacy, super-user models, onboarding resilience, and continuous learning.
  • Financial sustainability and scale planning
Understanding total cost of ownership, operational sustainability, and donor transition planning.
  • Data use for decision-making
Turning routine health data into actionable insights for management and planning.

Delivery model

HTA+ training is designed to be accessible, scalable, and low-burden.

Digital-first (default)

  • Self-paced online modules
  • Low-bandwidth friendly
  • Scenario-based learning
  • Suitable for geographically distributed teams

Blended delivery (optional)

  • Live virtual workshops
  • Facilitated discussions and case reviews
  • Peer learning sessions

On-site or regional sessions (selective)

  • Leadership and governance workshops
  • Change management and adoption support
  • Used where risk level or scale warrants in-person engagement

Outputs and evidence

Organizations receive:

  • Competency assessment results by role and domain
  • Participation and completion summaries
  • Capacity-strengthening documentation suitable for donor or program reporting
  • Optional linkage to readiness score improvements in follow-up assessments

This allows clients to demonstrate not just training delivered, but capacity built.

Who this is for

  • Healthcare facilities preparing for or recovering from digital health implementations
  • Government programs and ministries strengthening system readiness
  • Donors and NGOs funding digital health initiatives
  • Implementers seeking structured capacity-building support without vendor lock-in

Why it matters

Digital health systems fail when people are not ready to use, govern, or sustain them.
HTA+ training ensures that people, processes, and systems evolve together.
